BBAAP Building Blocks Autism Assessment Program
BBAAP The Building Blocks Autism Assessment Program is one of several specialized services provided at the Community Child Guidance Clinic. It was developed out of our awareness that early identification and treatment in addressing problems at a young age is of critical importance. The goal of the program is to identify children with autism-spectrum concerns, and then assist parents and providers in attaining appropriate and timely treatment.
PROFESSIONAL STAFF The Building Blocks Autism Program includes highly qualified and licensed professionals, including a child psychiatrist, a clinical psychologist, clinical social workers, and occupational therapist, a speech language pathologist, a marriage and family therapist, and Community Child Guidance Clinic administrators.
HOW/WHEN TO APPLY TO THE BUILDING BLOCKS AUTISM ASSESSMENT PROGRAM Custodial parents/guardians, or professionals may make referrals. Families may apply for assessment consideration directly by calling 860-643-2101. Families are required to contact their local school districts in order to determine eligibility for special education, development for an individualized education program, and to determine eligibility for extended school year services. The child must also have a current medical referral indicating autism-spectrum concerns.
THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS Over the course of three weeks, a multidisciplinary team of highly qualified, licensed specialists will conduct autism-specific measures, enabling the clinicians to evaluate social and communicative skills in the context of observed social interactions. Some examples of the focus of the formal assessment:
In addition, the interdisciplinary team assesses the environmental arrangement and accommodations at home, school, and elsewhere in relevant community settings. Completion of these assessment tools may involve interviews with the family, or require team members to observe family interactions with the child.

The towns served are: Andover, Bolton, Columbia, Coventry, East Hartford, Ellington, Glastonbury, Hebron, Manchester, Marlborough, South Windsor, Stafford Springs-Stafford, Tolland and Vernon-Rockville.
SERVICE COSTS Fees are set on a sliding scale based on a family's ability to pay. Fees may also be covered by private medical insurance and by Title XIX.
