North Star

Partial Hospital/Intensive Outpatient Program

Program Description

bullet

The North Star IOP/PHP provides an intensive, time limited treatment for children age 6 to 12.

bullet

It runs after the regular school day for 3 or 4 hours a day and can be from 2 to 5 days a week.

bullet

It provides an active, intensive, and structured clinical service within a therapeutic milieu.

bullet

The purpose is:

bullet

To reduce the length of stay a child may experience in a more restricted setting.

bullet

To prevent placements outside the community.

bullet

To reduce or alleviate serious acute behavioral or emotional symptoms.

bullet

Provide assessment when a child is not able to function at home or school.

bullet

To provide a more intensive level of care when once a week outpatient therapy is not sufficient.

bullet

Treatment is individualized and provided by a multidisciplinary team supervised by a Child Psychiatrist.

bullet

Services include intensive weekly individual and family therapy, psychiatric and medication management when required, and a variety of structured therapeutic and psycho-educational groups all focused around a therapeutic milieu.

bullet

Family involvement is a central part of the program.  Daily communication and regulate family meetings are essential.

bullet

Planning for discharge begins at the first meeting to ensure children remain in their homes and communities and can be successful in their schools.
