The North Star IOP/PHP provides an
intensive, time limited treatment for children age 6 to 12.
It runs after the regular school day
for 3 or 4 hours a day and can be from 2 to 5 days a week.
It provides an active, intensive, and
structured clinical service within a therapeutic milieu.
The purpose is:
To reduce the length of stay a child
may experience in a more restricted setting. |
To prevent placements outside the
community. |
To reduce or alleviate serious acute
behavioral or emotional symptoms. |
Provide assessment when a child is
not able to function at home or school. |
To provide a more intensive level of
care when once a week outpatient therapy is not sufficient.
Treatment is individualized and
provided by a multidisciplinary team supervised by a Child
Psychiatrist. |
Services include intensive weekly
individual and family therapy, psychiatric and medication management
when required, and a variety of structured therapeutic and
psycho-educational groups all focused around a therapeutic milieu.
Family involvement is a central part
of the program. Daily communication and regulate family
meetings are essential. |
Planning for discharge begins at the
first meeting to ensure children remain in their homes and
communities and can be successful in their schools.
