PARENT EDUCATION GROUPS FOR

DIVORCING PARENTS PROGRAM

Transparenting©

Divorce is a painful time for the entire family.  Children are often caught in the middle of their parents' uncoupling.  Family roles are redefined.  No longer a couple, parents must find ways to continue their roles as mother and father.

Transparenting© is a nationally acclaimed Parent Seminar developed by Families First of Atlanta, Georgia.

The Parent Seminar is designed to help minimize the negative impact of divorce on children at a time when parents are naturally preoccupied with their own adjustment.  Recognizing that their joint roles as parents will continue to exist, the seminar helps parents begin to restructure their relationship and make appropriate plans for their children.

Did you know...

bullet

More than one million children are affected by divorce every year.

bullet

70% of divorced parents fail to build a cooperative post-divorce relationship, which is so crucial for their children.

bullet

Children of divorce are two to three times more likely to suffer emotional or behavioral problems.

bullet

In Connecticut, there are almost 14,000 divorces each year.

Who Should Attend

The groups are available to any parent who is in the process of divorce or who is referred by the Court.  The groups are open to parents from any town in the State of Connecticut.

How to Apply

To participate in a group, telephone the Clinic at (860) 643-2101 and ask for information on the Parent Education Group for Divorcing Parents.  You will be asked to leave your name and phone number, and you will be called back promptly to be scheduled for a group.

Participants should bring the Court form "Parenting Education Program-Order Certificate and Results" to the first group meeting so that we can attest to your attendance.

Meeting Schedule

We will offer groups on weekdays, evenings and weekends; and if we are not able to accommodate your scheduling needs, we will help with a referral to another program.

Our groups are available to both parents.  If there is a preference to be in separate seminars, it will be honored.

Fees

The cost to parents is $125 for the six-hour seminar.  The fee is payable in advance and will cover all costs including meetings and workbooks.

Waived fees will be accepted.

At the conclusion of the six hours, we will provide you with a written statement certifying that you have successfully completed the seminar.

Miscellaneous

Our seminars are educational programs designed to teach parenting skills and increase awareness of what children experience during the divorce process.

You will not be asked to focus on personal material, and this is not a psychotherapy group.

Records will not be kept except for those needed to validate attendance.

Referrals for Personal or Child Counseling

If you would like help of a more personal nature through your divorce, we will provide you with a list of referral sources which can include those services offered by the Community Child Guidance Clinic.
