Trauma Services

The Community Child Guidance Clinic offers a variety of comprehensive trauma services. Trauma can be defined as any event in which a person experiences or witnesses that threatens his or her safety, causes injury, or sexual violence. Some examples of trauma include sexual and physical abuse, witnessing violence, or the sudden death or loss of a loved one. It is not uncommon for children to experience emotional or behavioral challenges after being exposed to a trauma, including:

  • Trouble sleeping or having nightmares
  • Feeling sad, worried, angry or cranky
  • Wanting to be alone
  • Frequent thoughts about the trauma
  • Getting upset when reminded about the trauma
  • Not wanting to talk about the trauma
  • Difficulty paying attention or focusing
  • Behavioral problems or aggression

  • Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Treatment
  • Victims of Crime Assistance
  • Sexual Abuse Treatment

You can find more detailed information about each of these programs on the following pages. If needed, clients are able to participate in any combination of programs and are not restricted to only one of the trauma services.
