SCHOOL-BASED PSYCHIATRIC EVALUATIONS AVAILABLE
For students who are struggling to maintain safe and appropriate behaviors in the classroom, CCGC can provide psychiatric evaluations to help get to the heart of the issue.
The Community Child Guidance Clinic’s Department of Psychiatry is staffed by experienced, board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrists, and provides individualized outpatient treatment to kids experiencing low- and high-level mental health issues. Starting this year, we are happy to be able to offer expanded psychiatric evaluations in our community. This means if a child has not previously received services at CCGC, they may be eligible to receive an evaluation to help understand a problem behavior, a change in mood or mental state, or another issue that has arisen. What's more, CCGC is now able to offer these evaluation services out in the community at local schools, making it convenient and easy for children and their families to begin exploring treatment options.
Depending on the needs of the child, a psychiatrist will conduct an individual comprehensive assessment in order to help:
- Refine a diagnosis
- Provide education for parents regarding diagnoses
- Explore the role of medication
- Provide insights into treatment approaches for clinicians involved with each child
If you have been looking for extra support when it comes to a child's mental health, we are here to help. Get in touch using the form below today to learn more.
WHAT'S NEXT AFTER AN EVALUATION
Based on the findings of the evaluation, our psychiatry team will make recommendations to the family about potential treatment and supports that could be beneficial. These recommendations may include things like:
- Discussion of potential treatment options
- Changes to the child's in-school supports (IEP)
No matter what course of treatment or other options are presented, our doctors will walk the family through the different possibilities and make sure that everyone involved understands the treatments that are available. Once equipped with all the information needed, families and service providers will be able to make the best possible decisions in the child's best interest, and we will be there to support their treatment journey every step of the way.
